PanAmerican ArtProjects is pleased to present a solo show of work by  Santa Fe artist Ted Larsen.  The opening reception is Saturday, Oct. 18 from 5-8 p.m. at 1615 Dragon Street, in the Design District of Dallas. ABOUT TED LARSEN
In his second solo exhibition with us, Larsen delves further into his exploration of assemblage and found materials.  Larsen finds new purpose in these materials and re-identify their meanings, ultimately giving new context to the idea of Ready-Mades.

Continuing to use the detritus of society found in abandoned buildings, salvage yards, and old industrial plants, Larsen’s new work alternates between the pristine and the vandalized, the minimal and the expressionistic. Using a range of techniques that include tree saps mixed with over-layed wooden structures, compressed steel objects, and fabricated constructions, Larsen explores the formal qualities of containment and repression.  Fascinated with the authenticity of the materials, he endeavors to elevate them to a higher level and transform them into something better.  Larsen believes it is his duty as an artist to address the world’s current philosophical and theological issues in an aesthetic vehicle to stimulate a dialogue that may have the power to rectify our problems.  Larsen will choreograph the installation, moving the work off the walls and onto home-made pedestals to emphasize the anti-heroic and anti-hierarchical nature of his aesthetic.

In 2008, Larsen received a grant from the Pollock Krasner Foundation, the New Mexico Museum of Art acquired one of his works from the exhibition “Art on the Edge” curated by Elizabeth Sussman of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and he was included in the Southwest Biennial at the Albuquerque Museum.  Larsen was also featured in solo exhibitions at Eight Modern in Santa Fe and OK Harris Gallery in New York.  Larsen’s work appears in private and public collections across the country.

In December 2006 we opened a 4,500 square foot space in the Wynwood District of Miami, which features two exhibition rooms, a video box, sculpture garden, and an apartment with a studio for visiting artists.  In September 2007, the Dallas gallery opened in a new location in the Dallas Design District at 1615 Dragon St.

RONALD MORÁN

Simulacrum is essential in the paintings and installations of Ronald Morán.  Morán creates totally static environments, mise en scene void of human characters.  Installations are often domestic or familiar spaces covered with white industrial cotton.  The subjects for Morán’s soft and quiet paintings also depict domestic objects or objects of violence sheathed in this same white nebulous material.  Morán’s goal is to neutralize his subject and represent the impact of contemporary society’s lack of sensitivity to violence and the definitions of our domestic roles.

Born in Chalchuapa, El Salvador in 1972, Morán studied art at Centro Nacional de Artes San Salvador and Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado San Salvador.  Morán has participated in twelve solo shows in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.  He has participated ingroup shows throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.  In 2007, Morán represented El Salvador at the Venice Biennale.  This will be his first solo show with PanAmerican ArtProjects.
