Dallas, TX – The Video Association of Dallas has announced that the 25th anniversary of its VideoFest will be Sept. 27-30, 2012 at its original home, the Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N. Harwood St. in downtown Dallas. Call 214-428-8700 for information or visit www.videofest.org.

VideoFest is now the oldest and largest video festival in the United States, and continues to garner critical and popular acclaim. Merging art and technology since 1986, VideoFest has specialized in independent, alternative, and non-commercial media, presenting hard-to-find works rarely seen on television, in movie theaters, or elsewhere, despite their artistic excellence and cultural and social relevance. Even in a Web 2.0 environment where everything is seemingly available on the Internet, the VideoFest provides curatorial guidance, a critical voice in the wilderness navigating the vast and diverse landscape of media, helping to interpret its cultural and artistic significance. The event provides a communal environment for real-time, face-to-face dialogue between makers and audiences.

Highlights of VideoFest 25 will include:

The winners of the 24 Hour Video Race (the 2012 race will be May 4 at the Angelika);

The winner of VideoFest Awards for narrative feature, narrative short, experimental, documentary feature, documentary short, animation and other;

The Texas Show, a juried compilation of short film and video by Texas artists;

Workshops for filmmakers;

The Program, curated visual art videos and installations, including work by Robert Frank;

VideoFest 25 jewelry designed by Brad Oldham;

Retrospective programming at The Power Station;

ABOUT VIDEO ASSOCIATION OF DALLAS

The mission of the Video Association is to promote an understanding of video as a creative medium and cultural force in our society, and to support and advance the work of Texas artists working in video and the electronic arts. The Video Association of Dallas (VAD) is a 501(c)(3) organization incorporated on April 25, 1989. It began in 1986 as a weekend event, “Video As A Creative Medium”, presented at the Dallas Museum of Art by independent curators Barton Weiss and John Held. That first event, which included two nights of video by selected local and national video artists, was a great popular success, which led to the founding of the Dallas Video Festival (DVF) in 1987. Video Association of Dallas also presents the 24 Hour Video Race, the Texas Show Tour, North Texas College Film Festival, Texas Independent Film Network screenings, Texas Fllmmakers Production Fund workshops, Three Star Cinema, and other programs throughout the year.

About the Dallas Architecture Forum

The Dallas Architecture Forum is a not-for-profit civic organization that brings leading architectural thought leaders from around the world to speak in Dallas and also fosters important local dialogue about the major issues impacting our urban environment. The Forum was founded in 1996 by some of Dallas’ leading architects, business, cultural and civic leaders, and it continues to benefit from active support and guidance from these citizens. The Dallas Architecture Forum’s members include architects, design professionals, students and educators, and a broad range of civic-minded individuals and companies intent to improve the urban environment in North Texas. The Forum has been recognized nationally with an AIA Collaboration Achievement Award for its strategic partnerships with other organizations focused on architecture, urban planning and the arts. For more information on the Forum, visit www.DallasArchitectureForum.org.

About the Artist:

Jean Louis Charles Garnier (1825-1898) was a French architect, born on Nov. 6, 1825, in Paris. He became the apprentice of the French architect Louis Hippolyte Lebas and learned neoclassical style design. He was a full time student at École des Beaux-Arts in 1841. Garnier spent 5 years in Italy after winning the Grand Prix de Rome in 1848 at the age of 23. He later traveled through Greece and found architectural influence among the ruins there. Garnier entered the competition for the Académie Nationale de Musique, better known as the Opéra, in Paris in 1861. He won fifth prize in the first stage of a two-phase competition and later that year won the commission selected from over 171 entries. The Opéra was built from 1862 to 1867; the interiors were not completed until 1874. The folio Le Nouvel Opera de Paris was published in 1878 to honor Garnier’s grand design.

PanAmerican ArtProjects is pleased to present a solo show of work by Santa Fe artist Ted Larsen. The opening reception is Saturday, Oct. 18 from 5-8 p.m. at 1615 Dragon Street, in the Design District of Dallas. Call 214-522-3303 for information or visit www.panamericanart.com. The gallery is open Tuesday- Saturday 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will close Nov. 15.

ABOUT TED LARSEN
In his second solo exhibition with us, Larsen delves further into his exploration of assemblage and found materials. Larsen finds new purpose in these materials and re-identify their meanings, ultimately giving new context to the idea of Ready-Mades.

Continuing to use the detritus of society found in abandoned buildings, salvage yards, and old industrial plants, Larsen’s new work alternates between the pristine and the vandalized, the minimal and the expressionistic. Using a range of techniques that include tree saps mixed with over-layed wooden structures, compressed steel objects, and fabricated constructions, Larsen explores the formal qualities of containment and repression. Fascinated with the authenticity of the materials, he endeavors to elevate them to a higher level and transform them into something better. Larsen believes it is his duty as an artist to address the world’s current philosophical and theological issues in an aesthetic vehicle to stimulate a dialogue that may have the power to rectify our problems. Larsen will choreograph the installation, moving the work off the walls and onto home-made pedestals to emphasize the anti-heroic and anti-hierarchical nature of his aesthetic.

In 2008, Larsen received a grant from the Pollock Krasner Foundation, the New Mexico Museum of Art acquired one of his works from the exhibition “Art on the Edge” curated by Elizabeth Sussman of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and he was included in the Southwest Biennial at the Albuquerque Museum. Larsen was also featured in solo exhibitions at Eight Modern in Santa Fe and OK Harris Gallery in New York. Larsen’s work appears in private and public collections across the country.

About PanAmerican ArtProjects
Pan American Art Projects specializes in art of the Americas with the mission to build a bridge between North and South American cultures by presenting and exhibiting artists from both regions concurrently. We deal with emerging to established artists, as well as secondary market paintings, sculpture, and works on paper.
Originally Pan American Art Gallery, in 2006 we modified our name to reflect our expansion and evolution into a dynamic contemporary art venture. In December 2006 we opened a 4,500 square foot space in the Wynwood District of Miami, which features two exhibition rooms, a video box, sculpture garden, and an apartment with a studio for visiting artists. In September 2007, the Dallas gallery opened in a new location in the Dallas Design District at 1615 Dragon St.

The galleries are active members of the Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas and the Wynwood Art Association.
