The Dallas Architecture Forum continues its 13th season of lectures with Austin architects Juan MIRO and Miguel RIVERA on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Magnolia Theatre, 3699 McKinney Ave. in Uptown Dallas. The Lecture Benefactors are bultaup dallas and Megan + Casey McManemin.
The Reception Underwriter is TKO Associates.
Coming from Spain and Puerto Rico respectively, Miró and Rivera bring fresh voices to the Texas and increasingly, to the national architectural scene. Their dialogue between overall idea and critical detail is demonstrated by a footbridge over a pond, a project that is becoming iconic. Winners of numerous national and state awards, the work of the firm is published in Britain’s Architectural Review (cover), Architectural Record, and in the forthcoming As Built: Detail from Princeton Architectural Press. For more information on the firm go to the end of this release or visit mirorivera.com.
Single tickets, available at the door only, are $20 for general admission and $5 for students with I.D. Dallas Architecture Forum members are admitted for free. The reception begins at 6:15 p.m.
The Dallas Architecture Forum also continues its series of free panels on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Dallas Center For Architecture, 1909 Woodall Rogers, with the discussion of Community, Culture and Urban Design with facilitator Krys Boyd of KERA. As Americans seek more energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable and physically fit lifestyles, many are approaching densely populated urban areas with renewed enthusiasm and high expectations.
How can landscape architecture and urban design create public spaces that bring a diverse population outside for regular exercise, recreation, and socialization? How should those spaces relate to the built environment that surrounds them? And how can shared space be managed so as to offer both organic human interaction and opportunities for solitary reflection? Panelists will explore all these questions, and consider the difference between brand-new urban design and that that attempts to repurpose and improve existing public space, which may already have a history that generates strong emotions—either positive or negative—among those who use it.
